My story, Family Jewels, has just won it's first award. From Just Erotic Romance Reviews I got the coveted GOLD STAR AWARD! woooohooooooooooo! And from Fallen Angel Reviews I got 5 Angels. Needless to say, I'm thrilled to pieces. It means so much to know I've done good and people really like this story.

I guess I could say I'm an "award winning author" now. Especially really cute ones like this one that a friend sent me today. Really made me giggle!
------------------------------------
An E-version of the Birds and Bees

A little boy goes to his father and asks "Daddy, how was I born?"

The father answers: "Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. ThenI set up a date via e-mail with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to do a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we realized that neither one of us had used a firewall, and by then it was too late to hit the delete button. Nine months later a blessed little Pop-Up appeared and said: You've Got Male!"
------------------------------------------------------------

Aren't you dying from laughter??? I sure was! Here's another one, a little on the crude side and I sure hope nobody from West VA is taking this the wrong way:
--------------------------------------------------------------

West Virginia Army Boys

Two Army boys, Leroy & Jasper, from the hills of West Virginia were promoted right from Privates to Sergeants because of their great marksmanship with rifles.

Not long after, they're out for a walk and Leroy says, "Hey, Jasper, there's the NCO Club. Let's you and me stop in."

"But we's Privates," protests Jasper.

"We's sergeants now," says Leroy, pulling him inside. "Now, Jasper, I'm a gonna sit down and have me a drink."

"But we's Privates," insists Jasper.

"Are you blind, boy?" asks Leroy, pointing at his stripes. "We's Sergeants now, so hush your mouth!"

They have their drinks and pretty soon a hooker comes up to Leroy. "You're cute," she says, "and I'd like to date you, but I've got a bad case of gonorrhea."

Leroy pulls his friend to the side and whispers, "Jasper, go look in the dictionary and see what gonorrhea means. If it's okay, give me the okay sign."

So Jasper goes to look it up, comes back and gives Leroy the big okay sign.

Three weeks later Leroy is laid up in the infirmary with a terrible case of gonorrhea. "Jasper," he says, "why did you give me the okay sign?"

"Well Leroy, in the dictionary, it says gonorrhea affects only the privates" He points to his stripes. "But we's Sergeants now!"
------------------------------------

What a HOOT. :o)

What happened to February?

It's gone. *poof* Just like that, the whole month of February is GONE. I thought when I quit work last September that time would slow down...just a wee bit. But it seems I'm more busy now than before, for some strange reason. The only good thing is that I am getting a lot of writing done. I've begun the rewriting of an old novel that I began in 1998 - before I knew what I was doing. It's another contemporary erotic western romance, titled "Mustang". The rewrite is tougher than I thought it would be, despite having the story part completed (well, sort of, it's rough). When you re-read something you wrote a long time ago, you realize the internal problems and must go in and fix them. The problem begins with the first fixing...it leads to more doors opening up inside the story and of course, as a curious writer, you follow them inside and then WHAM!--the story begins to change. But, I am liking this story more and more each day. It deals with the wild mustangs that roam our west, a history I'm passionate about. The characters, Sylvia Velasquez-a professor of equine sciences at U of AZ, and Kyle Montgomery-wounded ex-Marine/Cowboy, are so real to me. And they sizzle together!! Needless to say, I'm having a lot of fun with this story.

So now it's March. Spring *might* be right around the corner. I have seen those crazy robins in our yard already since last month. They're living off the frozen wild apples that still hang from the gnarly tree beside the pond in my backyard. Plus, my horses are shedding already, even though we're still in the 20's with lots of snow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed both the robins and the equines are right about that!

Vacation's all I ever wanted...

It's vacation time! Every year during winter, my dh and I head out to Deer Valley, Utah for skiing. Ahhhh....lovely! It's cold but SUNNY here and I love it. Our condo sits at 8500 feet elevation. Altitude is a consideration as is the very dry air. The snow is in excellent condition this year too. Plus, this week is the Sundance Film Festival - a growing and popular event here. There are lots of "stars" everywhere too, which is really fun to see. On Sunday night, we sat at a table across from Nick Nolte and his wife. [yes, he was sober!]. Yesterday, we were leaving a local restaurant when Lea Thompson walked in. She's still cute and young looking. I hear that Matt Damon is around somewhere, but I haven't seen him yet. In year's past we've seen Cheech Marin, Victoria Principal, Ethan Hawke & Uma Thurman (when they were still a couple), Peter Weller (RoboCop), Elle McPherson, Tony Danza, and my personal favorite - Slash, the wild guitarist from Guns n Roses.

I'll keep my eyes open for more sightings, and let ya'll know who's here. ;o)

My favorite bitch-topic...

Yeah, it's the weather! Makes me want to hibernate indoors under the heated blankie, eat cookies and just get fat! And I hate that feeling. I'm a really active - fair weather - girl. In the last six weeks, we've had exactly 2.5 days of sunshine. Sheez, talk about depressing. :o(

So, a friend of mine sent me some x-rated cartoons to cheer me up. They worked. Where does the time go? It's now been more than 1 1/2 months since I last blogged here. My bad... Hubby finished his business in Ohio early and we returned just in time for the really nasty cold weather and snow to set in. Do I need to say I'm not enjoying it even if it is Christmas time? I'm NOT enjoying it! The snow makes riding outside difficult, and my horse is so friggin' bored with the indoor arena. But, we did manage to take the dogs for a long run in the white stuff yesterday. Here's a pic - I took the liberty of doctoring it for the season. LOL! The girls sure had fun and I will admit it felt good to get some exercise after I warmed up a bit.

Writing news: Family Jewels is in final edit mode (mine) after excellent crits from my trusted CP's. I submitted queries to 2 agents and 1 editor. Got a reply back from 2 agents!!!! Yay! I'll send out the requested material by snail-mail on Monday. I'm still hoping that the 1 editor is just busy with the season and will still reply back after the "holidaze" settles down. Will let you all know if/when that happens. Would be so cool!!!!!!!!!!

Now that FJ is pretty much done and out the door, my muse has been exploring new stories. I had a brain blast the other night for my paranormal, Heaven's Warrior, so that might be an option. Or, I might start something totally new. The New Year and all it's unwritten glory beckons. ;o)

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

Planned trips

Today is another beautiful day that just begs my attention. I had so much fun outside with the dogs and my horse yesterday, I almost feel guilty about it! (naw, not really **G**)

Alas, I have things to do, mostly to get ready for our trip to Columbus, OH. We leave tonight after my DH gets home from Chicago and we'll be taking our travel-trailer. Saturday and Sunday we'll be at the VCGC Hunt Test - hopefully to finish our pup, Kelly (CH Valcour American Idol) in her Master Hunting title. Here's a pic of her retrieving a chukar during training. She's a cutie and so talented!

Then we move to Alum Creek State Park outside Columbus for 5-7 days while hubby works with a company there on a new project. If that project gets approved, we'll move down to Columbus for a couple months.

The only bad thing is that I don't have internet access on my laptop. So, I may be AWOL for about a week. Should be fun, though. And it will force my butt in chair to WRITE.

Indian Summer time

Cool! I just figured out how to add images to this blog. I admit I havent' actually spent a lot of time "trying" to put photos here, but hey, it's fun. This is a pic of Bogey (my horse) and Deuce (my DH's). The photo is from last November, about this same time of year. See the snow on the ground? Ick!

But today - Oh, man, it's so gorgeous outside! I find this kind of weather - sunny, mid-70's - irresistable. I really should stay inside, chew some more on my last chapter and finish my synopsis of Family Jewels. BUT -- the last bit of wonderful weather is too nice to pass up. So I'm going out. ALL DAY. I have some shopping to do, and I'll take my dogs the long way around the lake for their walk. Then I'm going to saddle up that cute buckskin horse and go for a really long trail ride. The leaves are falling and we're at peak color right now. It should be food for my soul...

See ya'll tomorrow.

Almost done

Woohooooo! I'm almost done with Family Jewels... wow! For the longest time I had a mental block on the last action scenes. It came to me a few days ago, and I got it written lickity-split. My crit-buddy, Barbara Karmazin, got to read it first and really liked it, too. Not nearly as many red "chainsaw" marks as I expected either. ;o)

So, now to tidy up the loose ends with a final chapter. I have a few ideas, just need to mull them over and decide which angle feels best.

Congrats to buddy Tyler Blackwood on finishing her paranormal story, Riana Unveiled! This is one I started critting/reading for her a while ago and couldn't wait for her to finish!!! It should be awesome.

It just occured to me that I should exchange blog links with some of my author friends and crit partners... I've been keeping to myself too long. Weather: sunny, cool, breezy

Hey, two days in a row? Wow, I'm getting better at this. But I'm still skeptical that I'll be able to keep up a daily journal...er, blog.

Today I'm meeting my old friends from work. Yeah, I hated the job, but I had people there I really liked and we've stayed in touch. We're all meeting at a local Chinese buffet - YUM. Can't wait to see them again. One of the girls in my circle from ex-job knows that I write romantica, and I've given her a sample of my work - two chapters of Shadow Fire, my paranormal/werecougar story. I was a bit nervous about her reading it, because she has a major in English. She pretty much tore apart the very first story I tried out, 4 years ago. But, I'm very happy to report that her response to this story was "WOW!! This story Rocks, girlfriend! When can I read the rest of it??" [yaaaaaay for me!] I might consider letting her into my group of crit partners - she'd be really good at it, and it's a way for us to stay in touch even more. :o)

So, I have to go shower and dress now, figure out what to do with my hair - which needs cutting badly. It's grown down to the middle of my back and is way too heavy for a ponytail without giving me a headache. Unfortunately hubby is liking the long locks... ugh.

I was fairly productive yesterday and wrote one of the last two chapters of Family Jewels, my contemporary suspense. If I can figure out the last action scene either today, or tomorrow, I could be typing "The End" on that one sooner than I thought! Yihawwwwwwww!

I'm retired and I'm BACK!

Tuesday, Oct. 25 - Weather: cool, windy, rain predicted.

1 1/2 months since I "retired" from my day job on Sept 9. Hardly seems that long ago. The days just melt into one another now. Although I'm really too young to officially retire, it sure feels GREAT not to have to get up every morning and fight traffic to do a job I hated. And then fight my way home, fix a meal, spend time with my dogs and horses, maybe the hubby(*G*) and fall into bed again. I always felt like I was trying to catch up with myself and never quite got there. Can't imagine how people with active kids do it! But, the stress is GONE now, thank you thank you. I'm forever grateful for my hubby, who took a new, better paying job so I could stay home - and WRITE.

Took me this long to get into a daily routine where I partitioned my days to include writing. I admit I felt a bit lost the first month off, not sure how to get into a 'groove' to be home and be productive at the same time. I kept finding other things to do...like baking, something I love to do, but never really had a lot of time for. Think I've got that out of my system now, and fortunately haven't gained any weight because of it. **G**

So, what have I accomplished so far? Not much, sorry to say. I've read thru the 4 stories that I have in various states of completion and did some editing on each. I think I've set my goals on finishing my novella first, Heaven's Warrior. Because it's only 35k words I feel it has more of the instant gratification factor. Both my paranormal, Shadow Fire, and my SciFi, Rogan's Quest, have major plot issues that need reworking before I finish them. And then there's the contemporary suspense, Family Jewels, it just needs the ending - but I'm hanging on to it for some stupid reason.

I'll try to be more diligent about keeping up the Muse. Technically I have the time to do that now, but I've never been one to keep a schedule without resenting it - so we'll see. ;o)

Big News!

Sometimes, you do get what you wish for!

We are finally moving out of Michigan. AND - I get to quit my day job!!!

For the longest time, I wished that my DH and I would move out of Michigan. We've lived here 18 years - and I honestly can't remember ever really liking it. My main bitch is the weather. Too cold in the winter! and the cold and snow last too long. In my opinion it should be warming up by March. But here in Michigan, we've had years where you still need a coat and gloves in May and <gasp>even June. YUK.

My second bitch about this state is the road conditions. They should call this the Pot Hole State. People drive like idiots here - too fast, right on your ass, darting in front of you - all at 85 mph. I like to drive fast, I admit it. But, I also like to keep distance between me and anyone else on the road. The statewide joke is: "Michigan has two seasons, winter and construction." They spread salt in liberal amounts to counter the ice and snow we get. This in turn rots the asphalt right out from under your tires. Once the spring thaw hits us, they set up the ubiquitous orange barrels and throw more asphalt into the holes. Makes for a lovely patch-work quilt effect - and a bumpy ride. Michigan also allows heavier loads in semi-trucks, and this also contributes to the astronomical number of pot holes. In 8 years I've had 3 tire blow-outs due to pot holes. Thank God for cell phones.

So, the last day I will be considered and "employee" is Sept. 9, 2005. I can't wait to quit my dayjob! This is a wonderful opportunity for me, and I fully plan on dive into my writing fulltime. I have so many books planned to release in 2006: Family Jewels, Shadow Fire, Rogan's Quest, and Heaven's Warrior.

We haven't decided where we'll be moving to yet. Most likely it will be Tennessee - because the climate is right (mild winter, long summer) and the state doesn't have an income tax! Woohoo! We've found some wonderful 50-100+ parcels of land to build on, all within our price range. I'm just not sure when that will happen, since we haven't sold our house in Michigan.

Right now, I am a very lucky girl. And I LOVE IT!

Welcome to my blogspot!

Okay then, I've joined the masses in blogging.
